What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program?
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive, structured treatment program providing many services as inpatient care. PHP usually meets for several hours each day. This is a great option for people who need more support than outpatient care but are not ready for the commitment of inpatient care. People who require more support than traditional outpatient therapy but do not require the 24-hour supervision of inpatient hospitalization can participate in a type of intensive treatment at a partial hospitalization program in Bucks County.
PHPs typically consist of several-hour daily treatment sessions in a clinical setting, such as a hospital or outpatient clinic. Individual therapy, group therapy, medication management, and other forms of support like occupational therapy or family therapy may be included in the program.
PHPs can be beneficial to those with a range of mental health and behavioral problems, such as eating disorders, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, and depression, as well as A substance use disorder—which can be complex, characterized by problematic use of one or more substances, including drugs or alcohol, and leading to significant impairment or distress. Substance use disorders can range from mild to severe and can have a range of physical, psychological, and social consequences. For someone with a condition like one of the ones listed above, a PHP provides an alternative to inpatient hospitalization that is more adaptable and less restrictive, while still being provided ample support and structure to help people manage their symptoms and move forward in their recovery.
PHPs are frequently utilized as a step-down program for individuals who have completed inpatient treatment and require ongoing support prior to returning to conventional outpatient therapy.

Benefits of a Partial Hospitalization Program
While each person’s treatment experience is unique, some common benefits of PHP may help you on your journey to recovery. These include:
- Intensive Treatment: PHPs provide intensive care that is more planned out and comprehensive than standard outpatient therapy. In order to assist participants in managing their symptoms and making progress toward recovery, the program offers daily therapy sessions in addition to other forms of support. This can also help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to manage any challenges that come your way.
- Flexibility: PHPs are more adaptable than inpatient hospitals, enabling patients to receive treatment while maintaining some degree of autonomy and independence. People can attend the program during the day and live at home or in a community. This allows patients to continue working or going to school while in treatment, and to continue leading an active life while still getting the care and support you need.
- Cost-Effective: PHPs are typically less expensive than inpatient care, making them a more cost-effective option for people who need intensive care but cannot afford inpatient care.
- A Supportive Setting: As people work through their mental health issues, PHPs provide a structured and supportive environment that can make them feel less isolated and more at ease. Many issues can lead to a very isolating experience, but in a partial hospitalization program, you have the chance to connect with other people who are facing similar difficulties, which can be a valuable source of support and encouragement.
- Care Continuity: People who are transitioning from inpatient hospitalization or who require more support than traditional outpatient therapy can benefit from PHPs' assistance in ensuring continuity of care. The program helps people maintain their progress and stay on track with their treatment goals by acting as a bridge between various levels of care.
- Structure: A structured environment with a set schedule can provide much-needed structure and support during early recovery when everything feels new and uncertain.

What clients say about us...
“I’d like to thank Courtney from the bottom of my heart. She helped me through the scary process of getting into treatment and then treated me with respect and compassion. The treatment process was scary, vulnerable and uncomfortable, but she did everything she could to make me feel as comfortable as possible. I have become an active member of the recovery community and could not have done it without the guidance and expertise Courtney provided throughout treatment.”
